The ultimate Cradle mountain wedding & elopement guide. (2023)

Firstly congratulations! to you and your partner, and great choice btw.
It's hard to imagine anywhere more vividly Tasmanian than Cradle Mountain.

As you're beginning your planning I've put together some useful info to help navigate the process.

Lets jump in for everything you need to know about planning the most spectacular wedding in the mountains.

Planning the perfect wedding or elopement at Cradle mountain.

Decisions to be made (over a glass of red perhaps)

  • Wedding or elopement.

  • Ideal location.

  • What's the best time of year for you.

  • Do you want to engage the services of a planner, stylist, photographer, marching band or any other vendors. (P.s I'd love to come on an adventure).

  • If wedding, organise application approval from parks.

These decisions will be made based on a range of factors. Eg, its important to understand local weather patterns at different times of year.
What your ideal location looks like, based on backdrop, lighting conditions at your given time of day etc.

Maybe you want that high altitude rugged Mountain aesthetic similar to a moonscape. Or a picture perfect lakeside setting, or tucked in a cosy timber frame cabin with the fire crackling in the background.

Maybe you want it all!

Next up you'll want to apply for approval from parks (for weddings only) and understand the 'Intended Marriage form' process.

Best local vendors at Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park.

I'm delighted to be one of the vendors that frequents Cradle Mountain in my line of work. As such I strongly recommend a Tasmanian based vendor list over interstate directories. Isle weddings is a great place to start.

Cost of a Cradle Mountain Wedding.

The costs associated with a Cradle Mountain Wedding, booking application are assessed by Parks Tas. Additionally all guests + bride and groom are expected to have a valid park pass.

How to apply for a permit to hold a wedding ceremony in Cradle Mountain NP.

The application form and additional information can be found here, application.

Venues for your Tasmanian mountain wedding.

Nestled in the heart of Tasmanian wilderness world heritage area (TWWHA) are, not surprisingly, a gorgeous and iconic selection of venues.

Additional things to consider

  • While National parks are revered for their natural setting & remoteness they are multi-use. You should expect to share your setting with other park users. If you’re so lucky not to, it's a bonus!

  • As much as a bridal bush-doof sounds off tap, responsible consumption of alcohol is encouraged by parks.

  • Unfortunately dogs aren't allowed in national parks.

  • Florals, flames & bands should be discussed with parks prior.

  • Cradle mountain is just over 2 hours from Launceston and 4.5 hours from Hobart.

Dove Lake Viewing Shelter

The new Dove lake viewing shelter is an engineering delight and magnificent piece of architecture. As such I'd encourage couples if, this way inclined, to take full advantage of the photo op's it holds.

For any other information I'm able to help with please don't hesitate to get in touch here.

Warmest regards, Daniel.
